Aldous Huxley Brave New World Download: The Best Sites to Find the Ebook

But the young man had evidently not heard the question. 'O wonder!' hewas saying; and his eyes shone, his face was brightly flushed. 'How manygoodly creatures are there here! How beauteous mankind is!' The flushsuddenly deepened; he was thinking of Lenina, of an angel inbottle-green viscose, lustrous with youth and skin food, plump, benevolently smiling. His voice faltered. 'O brave new world,' he began, then suddenly interrupted himself; the blood had left his cheeks; he wasas pale as paper. 'Are you married to her?' he asked.

High, low, from a multitude of separate throats, only two voicessqueaked or growled. Repeated indefinitely, as though by a train ofmirrors, two faces, one a hairless and freckled moon haloed in orange, the other a thin, beaked bird-mask, stubbly with two days' beard, turnedangrily towards him. Their words and, in his ribs, the sharp nudging ofelbows, broke through his unawareness. He woke once more to externalreality, looked round him, knew what he saw--knew it, with a sinkingsense of horror and disgust, for the recurrent delirium of his days andnights, the nightmare of swarming indistinguishable sameness. Twins,twins.... Like maggots they had swarmed defilingly over the mysteryof Linda's death. Maggots again, but larger, full grown, they nowcrawled across his grief and his repentance. He halted and, withbewildered and horrified eyes, stared round him at the khaki mob, in themidst of which, overtopping it by a full head, he stood. 'How manygoodly creatures are there here!' The singing words mocked himderisively. 'How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world...'

The Savage stood looking on. 'O brave new world, O brave new world...'In his mind the singing words seemed to change their tone. Theyhad mocked him through his misery and remorse, mocked him with howhideous a note of cynical derision! Fiendishly laughing, they hadinsisted on the low squalor, the nauseous ugliness of the nightmare. Now, suddenly, they trumpeted a call to arms. 'O brave new world!'Miranda was proclaiming the possibility of loveliness, the possibilityof transforming even the nightmare into something fine and noble. 'Obrave new world!' It was a challenge, a command.

The real irony of the chapter lies in the fact that the total control and conditioning of this brave new world is not as perfect as it appears; Linda and John are the living proof that not everything is scientifically controlled and that things still go awry. Additionally, the chapter points out that in this totalitarian culture of the new world, it seems perfectly acceptable to sacrifice the individual on the altar of society. The chapter ends on a note of tension; the reader is made to wonder what will happen to John and Linda.

John is disgusted with life in the brave, new world. He is horrified at the things that he finds in the factories and repulsed by the reliance on soma. When he visits Eton, the upper-caste school, he is bewildered by the lessons taught there, especially when he hears the Savage Reservation being ridiculed and watches the process of hypnop'dia. As a result of his negative experiences, he is driven towards his mother and develops an almost "unnatural" affection for her, despite her ugliness.

A gripping BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation of Aldous Huxley's classic dystopian novel It's 2116, and Bernard Marx and Helmholtz Watson are token rebels in an irretrievably corrupted society where promiscuity is the norm, eugenics a respectable science, and morality turned upside down. There is no poverty, crime or sickness - but no creativity, art or culture either. Human beings are merely docile citizens: divided into castes, brainwashed and controlled by the state and dependent on the drug soma for superficial gratification. Into this sterile society comes an outsider, John - a man born into squalor and suffering, but raised on The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, a book which has shaped his entire life. When he discovers that treasured ideals such as love mean nothing in this 'brave new world', where romance is ridiculous, marriage shocking and parenthood shameful, John's world is shattered - and his reaction will show Bernard and Helmholtz what rebellion really means... Based on Aldous Huxley's 1932 masterpiece, widely considered one of the greatest novels of all time, this chilling dramatisation set in a futuristic totalitarian society stars Jonathan Coy, Justin Salinger, Milton Lopes and Anton Lesser. Running time: 2 hours '...outstanding, right from the cheery music that kicks the thing off through to all the subtle sound effects that help to set the scenes perfectly' 2ff7e9595c
